Youth Solo Competition
When and where will the competition take place?
The competition will take place on Saturday, October 19th, 2019 at 1:30pm at the Orillia Opera House. Should a preliminary round be necessary, it will be held at 10:00am that day. Admission to the competition is free and open to the public.
Who can enter?
The competition is open to any student enrolled in a Simcoe County secondary school for the 2019/2020 school year. This year, music is available for the following instruments: trumpet, trombone, alto saxophone, tenor saxophone, baritone saxophone, and guitar.

I have prepared my solo... what happens when I get on stage?
Your solo performance will be accompanied by a live jazz band (Orillia Brassworks) and you will be evaluated by two professional adjudicators. Each entrant will receive feedback from the adjudicator as well as a recording of his/her performance.
Who are the adjudicators?
The adjudicators are Yamaha artists John Johnson and Shirantha Beddage.
What happens if I win?
1st place: $400 scholarship and the opportunity to perform with Brassworks at the Saturday evening headline concert.
2nd place: $200 scholarship
3rd place: $100 scholarship
When is the registration deadline?
All entrants must register by Friday, September 27th, 2019. Registration is free. Entrants will be contacted by email to confirm registration.
